Maplewood Reformed Church, as a member of the Holland Classis of the Reformed Church in America, is led by a Consistory. The Consistory is made up of ministers, elders, and deacons, who together govern the life and ministry of the church. Visit the RCA website to learn more about what a consistory is and how it functions.

Rev. Dr. James Ellis III

Pastor James was born in Japan and has since called many places home—Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Georgia, the District of Columbia, Michigan once before, and four pandemic-laden years in Canada. Ordained in the Baptist tradition, he will sometimes invite you to say “amen” while preaching and loves to weave contemporary culture into sermons, to help us better apply God’s Word to our lives. As a graduate of Western Theological Seminary (D.Min.), Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, and the University of Maryland, he’s grateful to have had dear mentors like James E. Massey, Eugene H. Peterson, M. Craig Barnes, and Judith H. Paterson. Pastor James is also a professor and is into writing. His latest book is In Those Days as Today: Preaching through the Book of Judges. Pastor James as much time as possible with Renata (they’ve been married for 18 years), going to the gym, practicing photography, and bracing himself for battles with snow and squirrels—both which test his patience. He can be reached at james@maplewoodrca.org
